Rantau will be a house with four upstairs rooms, each let to a single guest at a time. Not for weekend getaways, not for groups — Rantau is built for one person who arrives carrying unfinished work: a manuscript that's stalled, research that's piled up, a project that needs time and distance to finish.
Minimum stay is three weeks, maximum three months. Long enough for work to find its own rhythm, short enough to stay a pause rather than a permanent escape. No scheduled programme, no group activities, no curator directing your day. What's here is a quiet room, a view of rice fields and hills, and time that's entirely yours.

No decisions

What's still being finished
Several parts of the house are still being finished — some of the guest rooms, the staircase, and the entrance haven't been photographed yet because they're not done. The photographs on this page are an honest picture of what already exists: the view, the pool, and the grounds. We'll add more once those parts are finished, including the valley photographed at different stages of the growing season over the coming year.

The house, and Lintau
Rantau occupies the upper floor of a house in Lintau, with four bedrooms that will be let to individual guests. There's a balcony that looks straight out over the rice fields and hills, a swimming pool and grounds downstairs, and a quiet outdoor sitting area for reading or watching the afternoon go by.
A number of things are still in progress — the guest rooms, staircase, and entrance are still being worked on. We're stating this plainly, not as a promise, but as an honest picture of where the house stands right now.
Lintau is an agricultural valley in Tanah Datar, ringed by hills and fed by a river that runs the length of the valley. Rice fields are the main view from the balcony — pale green at the start of the growing season, golden as harvest nears, bare and muddy after cutting, then flooded again as they're prepared for the next cycle.
What you should know before coming
- This is a working agricultural valley, with neighbours visible from the balcony — rural quiet, not total isolation.
- A road runs directly alongside the edge of the property.
- The rice fields follow the growing cycle; the view changes through the year, and isn't always green.
